MOSCOW, April 14 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) – Police detained around 90 people protesting in New York against the supply of weapons to Israel, without disclosing charges, according to The New York Times newspaper, citing law enforcement authorities, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
The demonstration took place on Monday in the lobby of the skyscraper housing the offices of the Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, according to the report.
Roughly 200 people joined the action overall, the newspaper reported.
They attempted to force entry into the lobby but were repelled by security, then lingered at the building entrance. After a while, some blocked a nearby street, prompting police intervention.
On February 28, the United States (US) and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing infrastructure damage and civilian casualties.
Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in West Asia.
Following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the US last week, Lebanese movement Hezbollah suspended its operations against Israel.
The movement’s combat operations resumed on April 9 after Israel launched a massive strike on Beirut and towns in southern Lebanon the day before.
