12 illegal immigrants rescued off south-eastern Tunisia

TUNIS, July 11 (NNN-XINHUA) — The Tunisian navy rescued 12 Tunisian illegal immigrants including a 3-year-old girl in critical condition, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

These illegal immigrants were rescued on Tuesday evening from a sinking boat off Kerkena island belonging to Sfax Province in southeastern Tunisia.

They were sailing from the coast of Zarzis in the southeastern Tunisia toward the Italian coast, the ministry revealed.

The rescued girl and her mother were transferred to the regional hospital for necessary treatment, while the others were handed over to the National Guard in the region pending legal procedures. — NNN-XINHUA
