WASHINGTON, July 9 (NNN-ANADOLU) -U.S. President Donald Trump tore into British Prime Minister Theresa May Monday over her handling of the UK’s withdraw from the European Union following leaked diplomatic emails.
“What a mess she and her representatives have created,” Trump lashed out on Twitter. “I told her how it should be done, but she decided to go another way. I do not know the Ambassador, but he is not liked or well thought of within the U.S.”
The salvo followed the publication of diplomatic emails from Britain’s U.S. ambassador highly critical of the Trump administration, which among other things called the administration “unpredictable” and “diplomatically clumsy and inept.”
The emails were published by the Daily Mail on Sunday, and their authenticity was confirmed by the British government.
British Ambassador Kim Darroch called Trump “insecure” and “incompetent” in the sensitive memos.
Trump said the U.S. “will no longer deal with him,” referring to Darroch, adding that the “good news for the wonderful United Kingdom is that they will soon have a new Prime Minister.”
“While I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent State Visit last month, it was the Queen who I was most impressed with!” he added.
The leaks came just weeks after the British Queen Elizabeth hosted Trump and his family with a 41-gun salute and a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.
Though controversial, the accounts in the leaked emails largely square with many of the Trump administration by insiders in both books and press accounts.
May stepped down from her post June 7, but is acting prime minister until a replacement is chosen.
