NEW DELHI, India, July 7 (NNN-PTI) – Jaipur, known as the pink city of India, was declared as a world heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), on Saturday, officials said.
“In yet another landmark achievement, India’s nomination of the Jaipur City, Rajasthan, got inscribed today on the World Heritage List of UNESCO, during the 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Baku, Azerbaijan,” a statement by India’s cultural ministry said.
Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, is popular for its architecture, culture and tourism.
With the successful inscription of Jaipur city, India has 38 world heritage sites, that include 30 cultural properties, seven natural properties and one mixed site, the statement said.
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed satisfaction over the development.
“Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over,” Modi wrote on Twitter. “Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.”– NNN-PTI
