KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (NNN-Bernama) — The Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, told the Dewan Rakyat today that wanting to gain freedom is one of the five primary causes of children going missing in Malaysia.
She said the Royal Malaysia Police recorded 7,159 cases of children going missing because they wanted more freedom. She also said that from 2011 to May this year, there were 15,042 missing children.
“The other causes are being influenced by friends (3,167 cases), lured by lovers, family conflict or parental neglect (1,523 cases) and not interested in school or seeking employment (577 cases),” she said.
