Malaysian police refute claims American man injured in paramotor crash is a spy

JELEBU, Malaysia, July 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysian police have refuted claims in the social media that an American injured in a Paramotor that crashed at Purun near here on Saturday, is a spy.

Negeri Sembilan state police chief, Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said investigation by the police found that the 60-year old man had entered the country as a genuine tourist.

“Claims that the American man was carrying out spying activities are not true. He entered Malaysia as a proper tourist,” he said when met at the Jelebu district police headquarters here today.

Earlier, he had inspected the crash site together with Jelebu District Police Chief, DSP Kamarul Rizal Jenal.

Mohamad also said police investigation into the remnants of the badly crashed paramotor found that it was Technam made and not a Glider as had been reported previously.

“So far, we have not been able to record the statement from the victim due to the critical condition the victim is in,” he said.

He added that the findings into the cause of the accident will be announced by the Transport’s Ministry’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

Asked on the status of the airport which is used as a place for glider activities in the area, he said:

“Whether the area has been used illegally or legally for glider flight activities, this is not under police investigation. This will be decided by the relevant authority and not the police.”

Last Saturday, police found the burnt-out wreck of the paramotor in a bush in Purun in Kuala Klawang here.

Jelebu police chief DSP Kamarul Rizal Jenal said men from the Titi station found the charred debris after receiving a call from the public.

“We received a call at 3.36pm stating that a paramotor had crashed near Purun. My men rushed to the area and found the debris,” he said.

Two individuals, including the US citizen, Les Zsort Wrosmarty, 60, and a local Siow Moon Yoew, 56, were injured in the crash.

The duo suffered burns and were taken to the Jelebu hospital for treatment and later transferred to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban.
