AMMAN, Jordan, July 1 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan, on Sunday, underlined the need to intensify efforts, to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The remarks were made by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, at a meeting with U.S. Special Representative for Syria Engagement, James Jeffrey, where they discussed latest developments related to the Syrian crisis.
Discussions also covered the impact of the influx of Syrian refugees, as Jordan is home to some 1.3 million Syrians, according to a statement from Jordan’s Foreign Ministry.
Safadi called on the international community to continue upholding its commitment towards Syrian refugees.
On the Rukban camp, at the no man’s land between Jordan and Syria, the minister said, the only solution lies in the return of its residents to their hometowns.
He added that the camp was Syria’s responsibility rather than Jordan’s, as aid from Damascus is now possible.
