LIMA, June 28 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Association of Hotels, Restaurants, and Related Businesses (AHORA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysian Ambassador to the Republic of Peru Chuah Teong Ban to boost the tourism sector in both countries.
The signing ceremony featured Tourism Promotion Director at Peru’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Pedro Reategui, who stressed the opportunities presented by this mutual aid agreement.
According to Blanca Chavez, head of AHORA, the initiative is important because it fosters cultural exchange and provides the Andean nation the opportunity to host events and gastronomic festivals so as to promote its culinary culture.
For his part, Chuah said this agreement is a major step to work on investments and cultural exchange.
“Malaysia and Peru share many cultural similarities. Peru has good raw material and Malaysia is very dynamic in terms of investment,” he expressed.
On the other hand, Reategui said improving tourism favors job creation and is important for the Inca country as it generates intensive labor.
Likewise, he noted Peruvian gastronomic festivals are held every week through Peru’s network of missions abroad —made up of about 55 embassies as well as 90 consulates general and honorary consulates— making Peruvian gastronomy and hotels more and more popular overseas.
Additionally, he recalled that both Peru and Malaysia are signatory countries of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which brings together the most open and liberal economies in the world. — NNN-ANDINA
