Population Of Endangered Mongolian Saiga Antelopes Increases To Over 23,200

ULAN BATOR, Apr 24 (NNN-APA) – The total population of Mongolian Saiga antelopes, a critically endangered species, has increased to 23,215, local media reported today, citing the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)-Mongolia.

“Recent conservation efforts to mitigate impacts of environmental and human influences, such as, law enforcement, habitat management, disease prevention and community engagement, have aided to an increase in the Saiga population in Mongolia,” the WWF-Mongolia said in a statement.

Currently, the Mongolian Saiga antelopes cover an area of 40,006 square km across 18 soums (administrative subdivision) of four provinces in Mongolia – approximately 40 percent of its historical range.– NNN-APA
