Shots Fired, Police Vehicle Rammed After Pursuit In Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs

SYDNEY, Apr 19 (NNN-AAP) – A search was underway, after a police vehicle was rammed and shots were fired, following the pursuit of a stolen car through Sydney’s eastern suburbs early this morning.

The police began following the dark-coloured car along Old South Head Road, Rose Bay in the city’s east, at about 4.00 a.m. local time, when a pursuit was initiated but terminated due to speed, the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) Police said.

The vehicle was seen stopped a short time later. As an officer approached it on foot, the vehicle was driven towards the officer, with a police firearm being discharged towards the vehicle, NSW Police said.

The police vehicle was rammed and the stolen vehicle was driven away. No police were injured.

At about 6:30 a.m. local time, the vehicle was located and has been preserved for forensic examination.

Inquiries were continuing into the identity of the driver, NSW Police said.– NNN-AAP
