KABUL, Apr 15 (NNN-BNA) – In the drive against illegal crops, police have destroyed more than 88 acres of poppy farms and arrested a dozen persons, on the charge of involvement in the drug business, in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman, Assadullah Jamshid, said today.
During the recent campaign against illegal drugs, police have destroyed 88 acres of poppy farms, and about half an acre of hashish farms in parts of Kandahar, the official said.
Police arrested 12 individuals over poppy cultivation, and after preliminary investigation, referred them to the judiciary, he added.
In identical operations, police have thwarted attempts to smuggle 15 kg of opium poppy, and took into custody an alleged smuggler in Kandahar’s neighbouring Uruzgan province, a couple of days ago.– NNN-BNA
