Five Dead In Lightning Strikes In Nepal

KATHMANDU, Apr 11 (NNN-XINHUA) – A child and four others were killed, in lightning strikes in different parts of Nepal, in the last 24 hours, authorities said, yesterday.

One woman was killed and seven others were injured, in a strike in Doti district, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said.

In Bajhang district, a lightning strike left an elderly woman dead and two young girls injured.

A 12-year-old child in Morang district, a woman working in the field in Dhanusha district and a man in Jhapa district were killed in similar incidents.

“As the lightning incidents rise this season, the authority urges everyone to remain alert and remain inside during thunderstorms,” the authority said in a notice.

Dozens of Nepalis lost their lives in lightning strikes each year.– NNN-XINHUA
