
MANAGUA, April 10 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Nicaraguan Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) recorded a collection of 3.9 million quintals (about 390 thousand tons) of aerated coffee (arabica and robusta), local media reported.
These figures correspond to the monitoring carried out as of March 21 in the country’s dry mills, and correspond to the 2024-2025 production cycle, reported El 19 website, MAG reported.
The MAG report states that most of the coffee is processed in Matagalpa, where more than 70 percent of the grain produced in the country is accumulated, while the remaining 30 percent is processed in the departments of Madriz, Nueva Segovia, Jinotega, Boaco, Estelí and Rivas.
He added that the Sandinista government, through the institutions of the National System of Production, Consumption and Commerce, implements strategies to increase productivity, profitability and income of producing families.
According to official sources, in this Central American nation coffee represents one of the main export items, it is cultivated in 164,500 hectares, and is distributed in 60 municipalities of the country by more than 51,000 producing families.
Two percent is Robusta coffee, while 98 percent is Arabica, with exports to more than 50 countries by 94 companies and organizations.
During the harvest period, which extends from November to March, it generates close to 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.
According to the authorities, the coffee value chain here has an impact on trade, transportation, services and other derivatives of the economy, and is a determining factor in the stability, tranquility, and income generation of Nicaraguan families. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
