Safety Violations Found After Deadly Fire In Singapore: Authorities

SINGAPORE, Apr 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – Preliminary investigations by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), into a deadly fire on Tuesday, have uncovered fire safety violations, including unauthorised construction of partitions within the premises.

According to a Facebook post by the SCDF yesterday, the fire likely originated from a storage area on the second floor of a three-story shophouse, located on River Valley Road in southern Singapore.

The responsible party could face a fine of up to 200,000 Singapore dollars (about 148,000 U.S. dollars), a prison term of up to 24 months, or both, the SCDF said.

The fire on Tuesday morning killed a 10-year-old girl and left 21 others injured.– NNN-XINHUA
