BISHKEK, Mar 22 (NNN-KNA) – Kyrgyzstan celebrated the spring equinox holiday, Nowruz, yesterday, Mar 21, which was a public holiday in the country.
Mass public festivities, concerts, and national equestrian games were organised throughout the country. Traditionally, the Kyrgyz people prepare a stew, made from wheat malt, with the addition of flour, butter, and sugar, called “sumelek,” and treat everyone to it.
The main festive events were held with the participation of Kyrgyz President, Sadyr Japarov, at the central square in the city of Osh, in the south of the country.
Japarov congratulated the people of Kyrgyzstan on this bright spring holiday, and noted that Nowruz symbolized renewal, unity, and new beginnings, since ancient times.
In his speech, the Kyrgyz president emphasised the historical significance of the city of Osh, recalling that, this ancient city, located on the great Silk Road, has always been a centre of culture, trade, and international relations. He noted that, the city continues to develop, preserving its identity, multinational unity, and traditions of hospitality.
The head of Kyrgyzstan emphasised the importance of stability and peace for the prosperity of the country and highlighted that, in recent years, it has been possible to finally resolve border issues with neighbouring states.
He recalled that, on Mar 31, the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will meet at the intersection of the borders of the three states, exchange notes, and sign a joint declaration, strengthening eternal friendship and good-neighbourly relations among the countries.
Japarov also spoke about plans to launch a number of strategic facilities this year, including new hydroelectric power plants, textile factories, logistics centres, and enterprises for the production of building materials. He emphasised that, this year, 128 new production facilities will begin operation in Kyrgyzstan, marking an important step in strengthening the economy and creating jobs.
“We have set a course for building a new Kyrgyzstan, striving to establish order in all areas,” the president said.
After the official ceremony, a festive concert was held.– NNN-KNA
