ADEN, Yemen, June 22 (NNN-SABA) – War planes of the Saudi-led Arab coalition, launched air strikes and destroyed Houthi booby-trapped boats off Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.
Waddah Dubaish, spokesman for the joint pro-government forces, in the country’s western coast, said, “several predawn air strikes struck around nine booby-trapped boats that were previously prepared by the Houthis rebels in Hodeidah.”
He confirmed that, “the Saudi-led operation managed to foil a possible attack by the Houthi rebels against the international navigation routes in Bab Al Mandeb and the Red Sea.”
“The operation took place after precise intelligence information, and successfully destroyed the booby-trapped boats and thwarted the Houthi attack that was imminent,” said the military spokesman.
The spokesman called on the international community to take necessary measures to confront the serious Houthi threat that may harm the international shipping routes and global trade in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, the Houthi-affiliated Masirah television network, reported that, the Saudi-led coalition launched three air raids that struck a citizen’s farm in Hodeidah’s district of Dhohy, in the north-east part of the province.
The Houthi TV considered the Saudi-led air strikes as a new breach for the cease-fire brokered by the United Nations in Hodeidah, but didn’t mention details about any casualties.
The Houthi rebels control the city, while the Saudi-backed government troops advanced to the south-eastern outskirts.
The Yemeni warring parties reached a peace deal on Hodeidah in Dec last year, as a step towards brokering a comprehensive political solution.
Sporadic breaches are recorded daily in Hodeidah, as the two sides failed to withdraw their forces, in accordance with the agreement reached in the Swedish capital Stockholm.– NNN- SABA
