BAGHDAD, Mar 14 (NNN-NINA) – Iraq, yesterday, called on the United States to reconsider its decision, to suspend support for international organisations operating within the country.
The appeal came during an emergency meeting, attended by Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, and several other ministers and senior officials, according to a statement by the media office of the Iraqi National Security Advisory.
The meeting discussed the impact of the U.S. decision, to suspend funding for the UN community-based rehabilitation programmes for Iraqi families returning from the Al-Hol refugee camp in Syria. These families are being resettled at the Al-Amal Centre in Iraq’s northern Nineveh province.
It emphasised the responsibility of the international community to provide full support to the rehabilitation process for those families, many of them involved with the Daesh fighters, emphasising that, it is a shared responsibility, not Iraq’s alone.
The Al-Hol refugee camp, located in north-eastern Syria, houses displaced families of former Daesh fighters, including many Iraqis, Syrians, and foreign nationals.– NNN-NINA
