Primary elections begin in Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA, March 10 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras inaugurated the primary and internal elections on Sunday, with the opening of voting centers and the installation of polling stations throughout the country.

The official opening ceremony of these elections took place at the Jesús Milla Selva Institute in Tegucigalpa, in the presence of CNE President Cossette López and the councilors of that organization, Ana Paola Hall and Marlon Ochoa.

The Council is delivering elections with all the conditions to be remembered as the most transparent and faithful primaries and internal elections in our history, stressed Ochoa, representative of the ruling Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre).

The official called on citizens to demand the use of the biometric device at the time of voting, since the use of the fingerprint reader is the guarantee of a transparent contest, he emphasized.

In turn, Hall, from the conservative Liberal Party (PL), highlighted the presence of international observers, the use of the system for the transmission of preliminary electoral results (known as TREP), biometrics and connectivity.

In tune with her colleague, the councilor insisted that the use of the fingerprint reader is mandatory and the voting boards have the duty to use it, since, if they do not do so, these minutes would have a defect of origin and might be reviewed by the governing body of the electoral process, she warned.

The head of the National Electoral Council highlighted the fundamental pillar of this body during the primary and internal process and confirmed that it will not betray the trust of the citizens.
