Four Suffocated To Death While Cleaning Water Tank In Mumbai

NEW DELHI, Mar 10 (NNN-PTI) – At least four labourers died of suffocation, and one fell unconscious yesterday, while cleaning an underground water tank, in India’s financial capital city of Mumbai, civic officials said.

According to the city’s civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident took place in the afternoon, when five labourers entered the tank to clean it in Nagpada area of the city.

The fire brigade was alerted after all labourers fell unconscious inside the tank, said a BMC official.

“Of the five, four were declared brought dead and the fifth one was hospitalised and is undergoing treatment there,” the official said.

Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the deaths.– NNN-PTI
