Brunei Successfully Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions By 15 Percent

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Mar 7 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei has successfully reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent, and is targeting a net-zero aspiration by 2050, a government minister said at the legislative council, yesterday.

Haji Muhammad Juanda, the Minister of Development, said that, since its inception four years ago, Brunei’s National Climate Change Policy has introduced mitigation measures, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the industrial sector by minimising flaring and venting at oil and gas production facilities.

Brunei enforced mandatory reporting of greenhouse gases, increased the use of renewable energy, and installed a 48-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project titled “Sustainable Integration of Natural and Renewable Energy” (Sinar Hengyi Project) at Pulau Muara Besar.

Additionally, small-scale rooftop solar projects are actively pursued by the commercial sector.– NNN-ANN
