
ZANZIBAR, March 6 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE Indian Institute of Technology Madras Zanzibar Campus (IITM-Z) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oman’s Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), marking a significant step toward fostering academic collaboration, innovation and research.
Under the agreement, both institutions will jointly implement and manage academic programmes, promoting knowledge exchange among faculty, experts and students.
The partnership also includes collaborative research in technology and structured exchange programmes for professionals, strengthening the academic ties between Zanzibar and Oman.
As part of the collaboration, students from IITM-Z and MCBS will have opportunities to visit each other’s campuses for educational tours, enriching their learning experiences. Additionally, the agreement will support short-term internship programmes, providing practical training to students and equipping them with industry-relevant skills.
Speaking at the virtual signing ceremony, Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, Director-inCharge of IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus, highlighted the significance of the partnership in enhancing academic excellence in science and technology while fostering social and cultural ties between the institutions.
“This agreement plays a crucial role in fostering innovation and academic leadership,” she stated. Dean of MCBS, Dr Muneer Al Maskari, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasising that it will expand academic opportunities and strengthen relations between the two institutions.
He welcomed IITM-Z’s involvement, noting the advantages of cross-institutional learning and shared expertise.
The partnership adds to IITM-Z’s growing list of international collaborations, reinforcing its commitment to global engagement in higher education.
The virtual MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior leaders from both institutions, signifying their dedication to advancing research and education.
