ISLAMABAD, Mar 4 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, said yesterday that, his country has been working towards safeguarding wildlife treasures, for a robust ecosystem and sustainable development, highlighting an intrinsic connection between humanity and nature.
In his message on the occasion of the World Wildlife Day, the prime minister said, Pakistan is blessed with mesmerizing biodiversity and that, it is the nation’s responsibility to protect the extraordinary wildlife that enriches lives and ecosystems.
“From the elusive snow leopards of the Himalayas, to the endangered Indus River dolphins and the magnificent whale sharks of the Arabian Sea, Pakistan have it all,” he said.
He added that, these species are not just part of national natural heritage, but also play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and sustaining environment and economy.
Underlining the need of investing in a sustainable future for both people and the planet, Sharif said that, the country’s Green Pakistan programme, empowered local communities with economic opportunities that deter poaching and habitat destruction.
Besides that, a wildlife rescue centre has also been established, to rehabilitate injured, orphaned, and abused animals, aiming for their reintroduction into the wild or placement in sanctuaries that cater to their specific needs, he said.– NNN-APP
