JAKARTA, Mar 4 (NNN-ANTARA) – The Indonesian government said yesterday that, the country needed at least four million tonnes of rice, to support its free nutritious meal programme, which aims to benefit 82.9 million people.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that, the more beneficiaries included in the programme, the more raw materials would be required for the meals, distributed to students at schools.
“If we need to feed 82.9 million people, we will need around four million tonnes of rice,” Hasan said at a press conference, at the Graha Mandiri Building in Jakarta.
Regarding raw materials, Hasan noted that, each region had different needs and available ingredients. For example, Java required a large amount of chicken for the programme, while other regions needed fish.
The free nutritious meal programme is a key priority of the Indonesian government, with the aim to improve the nutrition of citizens, particularly students, across the country’s 38 provinces.– NNN-ANTARA
