Kenya: Two killed, six injured in Samburu bus ambush

SAMBURU (Kenya), Feb 28 (NNN-KBC) — Two people were shot and killed on Thursday while six others were injured after armed robbers ambushed a bus along the Maralal-Baragoi highway in Samburu.

Witnesses said the attackers killed two conductors on the spot while six passengers sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at Maralal Referral Hospital.

The gunmen, armed with rifles intercepted the bus and opened fire causing panic among the 60 passengers on board before looting valuables and fleeing into nearby thickets.

Local leaders have since condemned the attack calling for urgent government intervention to curb rising insecurity in the region.

Samburu Woman Representative Poline Lenguris questioned why one bus was targeted while another was spared urging authorities to act swiftly.

Baragoi MP Elly Letipila called on the government to implement necessary measures to contain banditry attacks in the region.

The Maralal-Baragoi highway has been a hotspot for banditry with past incidents including the killing of former MCA Morinjo last year and a recent ambush on a police vehicle that left one officer dead. — NNN-KBC
