Huge Fire Gutted Resorts In Bangladesh’s Popular Tourist Spot

DHAKA, Feb 25 (NNN-BSS) – A massive fire ravaged dozens of resorts and restaurants, in Sajek Valley, a popular tourist spot in Rangamati, one of three magnificent hill districts in south-eastern Bangladesh.

Indrajit Chakma, leader of the Sajek Resort Cottage Owners Association, told the press that, the fire originated from the first floor of a resort at around 1:00 p.m. local time, yesterday.

He said, the fire has rapidly spread to some 30 nearby resorts and restaurants due to the dry weather conditions.

Shirin Akhter, a senior official at Rangamati’s Baghaichhari Upazila, said, firefighters and army personnel were trying to bring the blaze under control with the help of local people. No casualties have been reported.

It was not immediately clear whether the blaze in the remote terrain was an accident or arson.

Officials said, there was a significant shortage of water at the spot, which caused delays in dousing the fire.– NNN-BSS
