LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Feb 22 (NNN-BNA) – At least one person was killed, as a landmine, left over from past wars went off, in south Afghanistan’s Helmand province, today, a local official said.
The deadly accident took place on a road in Gereshk district, early this morning, when the old landmine exploded on a tractor, killing the driver on the spot, provincial police spokesman, Ezatullah Haqqani, said.
Afghanistan is reportedly one of the most landmine-contaminated countries in the world, with dozens of people, mostly children, being killed and maimed every month.– NNN-BNA
