ALMATY, Feb 19 (NNN-KNA) – The flood forecasting and modelling system, Tasqyn, has been put into operation in Kazakhstan, to prepare for the upcoming flood season, it was reported yesterday, citing the Kazakh Water Resources and Irrigation Ministry.
The flood modelling system is currently underway for 142 hydrological posts across 128 river sections in the country. A total of 114 specialists are engaged in daily monitoring of data from these hydrological posts, inputting the information into the system.
“In addition to flood preparations within the country, we also maintain constant communication with colleagues from neighbouring countries. The exchange of information is carried out promptly,” said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
“We are also continuing to release water from reservoirs, to ensure there is available capacity to accommodate the spring flood. Currently, reservoirs can take in 13 billion cubic metres of water,” he said.
Linking to the Global Flood Awareness System, the Tasqyn system is expected to release the final forecast for the 2025 flood season, in early March.– NNN-KNA
