BRASILIA, Feb 16 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The union of Brazilians Manoel Angelim Dino and Maria de Sousa Dino, who have been together for 84 years and 87 days, was recognized as the world’s longest marriage, according to Guinness World Records.
The G1 news website assures that Manoel, 105 years old, and Maria, 101 years old, completed the so-called Chrysanthemum Wedding in 2024.
According to the record book, the two are currently the oldest living married couple in the world.
The marriage took place on Nov 20, 1940, in a chapel in the municipality of Boa Viagem, about 200 kilometers from Fortaleza, capital of the state of Ceará (northeast).
This mark was registered on Feb 5 by LongeviQuest, a group of researchers that is a reference in the monitoring and mapping of supercentenarians around the world.
In November 2024, the same group confirmed that João Marinho Neto, 112 years old, from Ceará, is the oldest man on the planet.
Manoel and Maria met for the first time in 1936. They worked with their families in agriculture.
When Manoel and Maria celebrated in 2023 the so-called Begonia Wedding for 83 years married, G1 talked to the family.
At that time, when asked about the secret of such a long marriage, Maria gave a simple answer: love.
They were able to raise 13 children, who later blessed them with 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and now 12 great-great-grandchildren!
As of February 2025, the longest marriage ever (different sexes) is that of David Jacob Hiller (b. 20 October 1789, d. 7 July 1899) and Sarah Davy Hiller (b. 17 March 1792, d. 8 April 1898), who were married for 88 years 349 days until Hiller’s passing. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
