NEW DELHI, Feb 16 (NNN-PTI) – At least 15 people, including 10 women and three children, died, and more than 25 were injured, when a stampede occurred at the New Delhi railway station late last night, confirmed a government official.
There was a huge crowd of people at the railway station, to board a train to Prayagraj district, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, to take the holy dip in “Triveni Sangam,” the confluence of three rivers, namely Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, during the ongoing spiritual festival “Maha Kumbh.”
The stampede occurred due to confusion about the arrival of the train, at one of the platforms at the New Delhi railway station.
The dead bodies had been recovered and those injured were admitted to a local hospital for necessary medical treatment.
