SINGAPORE, Feb 16 (NNN-XINHUA) – Singapore will increase penalties for speeding violations starting Jan 1, next year, in response to a sharp rise in cases last year, Home Affairs Minister, K. Shanmugam announced, yesterday.

Speaking at the Traffic Police Road Safety Day in northern Singapore, Shanmugam revealed that, the country recorded 192,000 speeding violations last year, the highest in a decade.

The year also saw nearly 7,200 traffic accidents, resulting in 142 fatalities. Of these, 46 were caused by speeding, marking a 44 percent increase from 2023.
