ADDIS ABABA (Ethiopia), Feb 15 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA and Algeria have agreed to enhance economic diplomacy by utilizing the key economic opportunities available in both countries to promote the welfare of their people.

This was unveiled by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo after he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the 46th session of the African Union Council of Ministers, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The two leaders discussed the importance of preparations for the next meeting of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPC) between Tanzania and Algeria, where the last meeting was held in 2023 in Algiers, Algeria.

The next meeting was agreed to be held in 2025 in Tanzania. They agreed to call for an earlier meeting in line with the agreements for the establishment of the commission, which stipulate that such meetings should be held every two years to facilitate the monitoring of the implementation of agreed cooperation areas.

They also discussed strengthening cooperation in the education sector, where Mr. Attaf promised that Algeria would continue to offer scholarships for long-term and short-term training aimed at building capacity and expertise in various academic and professional fields.

Additionally, they emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, defense, and security matters. There was also a focus on investment in fertilizer production to meet the real needs of farmers in Tanzania, which will help achieve the goals of the Build a Better Tomorrow (BBT) project, aimed at increasing youth employment and turning agriculture into a business.

Cooperation in regional and international forums was also highlighted as an important area to ensure that both countries stand firm in supporting strategic issues that are of mutual benefit in both regional and global platforms. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
