More tremors in the Ecuadorian Amazon

QUITO, Feb 2 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Two tremors, of 4,9 and 4,3 degrees of magnitude on the Richter scale, were registered in the Ecuadorian province of Napo, in the Amazon, where the day before there was an earthquake and several aftershocks.

According to the Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School, the first telluric movement of this Saturday occurred at 06:05 (local time) at 35.44 kilometers from the city of Tena and the second tremor was about 20 minutes later in the same area.

These tremors were felt with a mild to strong intensity in several cities of Ecuador, including Quito, Latacunga and Ambato.

Ecuador registered this Friday an earthquake of 5.5 degrees perceptible in 44 cities, including the capital, and there were more than 25 aftershocks.

The National Secretariat of Risk Management reported that as a consequence there was damage to infrastructure.

Ecuador is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area prone to this type of phenomena due to the collision of the plates that make up the earth’s crust. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
