METERLAM, Afghanistan, Feb 1 (NNN-BNA) – Three children lost their lives, in an explosion of an ordnance, left over from past wars, in the Alishing district of the eastern Laghman province, in Afghanistan yesterday, a statement by the provincial police office released here, said.
The ill-fated children, who were playing on a hilltop found a toy-like device and began playing with it, but the device exploded killing the trio on the spot, the statement added.
A similar accident claimed two children’s lives in the southern Kandahar province on Monday.
The war-torn Afghanistan is one of the most landmine-contaminated countries in the world, with dozens of people, mostly children, being killed or maimed every month, due to blasts of explosive devices, left over from the past decades of war and civil unrest.– NNN-BNA
