PHNOM PENH, Feb 1 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia arrested a foreigner, for possessing and transporting illicit drugs, seizing more than 47 kg of narcotics, the country’s Anti-Drug Department said, in a news release yesterday.
The male suspect, 27, was caught red-handed, at a condo in the capital, Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district on Wednesday.
“A total of 47.6 kg of methamphetamine, ecstasy, and ketamine was seized from the suspect’s possession during the raid,” the news release said.
It added that, the police also confiscated a pistol with 20 bullets, some drug paraphernalia, and a scale from the suspect.
Cambodia has no death sentence for a drug trafficker. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drugs could be imprisoned for life.
According to the Anti-Drug Department, the kingdom detained 27,068 drug-related suspects, including 1,045 foreigners, in 16 nationalities, last year, seizing a total of 14.9 tonnes of drugs.
Most of the seized drugs were ketamine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine tablets, heroin, ecstasy, and cocaine.– NNN-AKP
