Sri Lanka Recorded 8.8 Million Air Travels Last Year

COLOMBO, Jan 25 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s international airports handled over 8.8 million passenger arrivals and departures last year, a senior official from Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) announced, yesterday.

AASL Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Sumith de Silva, revealed that, in 2024, Sri Lanka recorded 8.88 million passenger movements, 56,289 aircraft movements, and 192,498 metric tonnes of cargo movements.

This marks a 17.69 percent increase in passenger traffic, a 20.69 percent rise in aircraft movements, and a 21.13 percent growth in cargo handling compared to 2023, he said.

The surge highlights the pivotal role of Sri Lanka’s aviation infrastructure in connecting the region and promoting travel, trade, and commerce, de Silva added.

The growth in passenger traffic was driven by the expansion of airline services and targeted efforts to enhance tourism.– NNN-XINHUA
