Kazakhstan Renovates Passenger Railroad Cars By 50 Percent In Past Decade

ALMATY, Jan 24 (NNN-KNA) – Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company, upgraded over 50 percent of its passenger railroad cars over the past decade, it was reported yesterday.

The company currently operates a fleet of 2,717 railroad cars, including 1,951 passenger cars and 220 freight, technical, and dining cars. To improve passenger services, the company has been modernising its railway infrastructure and rail yard.

From 2014 to 2024, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy acquired 1,046 new railroad cars, with many passenger cars undergoing renovations. Last year, 118 new railroad cars, manufactured in Petropavlovsk, were added to the fleet.

The company plans to purchase 12 new locomotives this year, and 24 more next year.

Kazakhstan’s railways transported 17.6 million passengers last year, marking a six percent increase compared to the previous year.– NNN-KNA
