AMMAN, Jordan, June 18 (NNN-PETRA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), on Monday, called for continued support to counter the impact of its budget deficit.
At a press conference for UNRWA’s advisory committee gathering in Jordan, Pierre Krahenbuhl, commissioner general of the UN agency, said, his agency started to sense the effects of the budget deficit of around 200 million U.S. dollars.
The financial crunch for the UN relief agency came, after the United States decided to cut its funding from 350 million dollars to 60 million dollars in 2018, and then completely halted its support to the agency.
Krahenbuhl urged continued support for the UN agency, to provide services to the Palestinian refugees in its five operation areas.
He voiced appreciation for the donor countries that helped reduce the budget deficit.– NNN-PETRA
