Cuba: 2-bus accident results in six dead and 59 injured in Ciego de Avila province

HAVANA, Jan 21 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Six dead and 59 injured is the result of an accident that occurred on the highway that connects the city of Morón with the Turiguanó island, in the Cuban province of Ciego de Avila.

The accident took place in the early hours of Monday morning, in conditions of poor visibility due to fog, when two buses that were transporting workers to Cayos Coco and Cayos Guillermo crashed.

According to Minister of Transportation Eduardo Rodríguez, it is preliminarily presumed that the cause of the accident is human error, although it is being investigated by a commission created for that purpose.

“This news hurts a lot, because these are human lives that are lost, families that will never be the same, for something that should not have happened,” the minister wrote on his Facebook account.

Rodríguez pointed out that the first meeting of the year of the National Road Safety Commission took place on Monday to determine the main causes of accidents.

He explained that although there is a decrease in traffic incidents compared to 2024, “it was appreciated that what happened this morning in Ciego de Avila reminds us how painful they can be, and also points us to a beginning of the year with numerous mass accidents with fatal consequences.” — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
