WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (NNN-XINHUA) — TikTok resumed its service in the United States on Sunday, hours after it was suspended, blocking access to millions of users across the country.
“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive,” TikTok said in a statement.
“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship,” said the company.
TikTok said it would work with President-elect Donald Trump, who will assume the presidency on Monday, for a long-term solution that would keep TikTok in the United States.
TikTok went dark late Saturday in the United States, one day after the US Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold a law forcing TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the app to an American company, or face a nationwide ban starting on Sunday.
Trump said earlier Sunday on Truth Social that he will issue an executive order on Monday that will allow TikTok to continue operating.
He said on Saturday that he will “most likely” give TikTok a 90-day extension. — NNN-XINHUA
