Heavy fog cancels hundreds of flights at Amsterdam and Eindhoven airports

AMSTERDAM, Jan 19 (NNN-XINHUA) — For the fourth consecutive day, dozens of flights were cancelled at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport as dense fog continued to disrupt travel across the Netherlands.

About 50 flights scheduled to for Saturday were canceled, adding to a week of significant disruptions. Similar conditions on Thursday and Friday caused dozens of canceled flights while Wednesday saw over 100 cancellations due to the persistent fog.

The Dutch national weather institute, KNMI, issued a yellow alert for dense fog in the northwestern regions, including North Holland, Friesland, and the Wadden Islands. Earlier on Saturday, the warning was extended to Flevoland, Overijssel, Drenthe, and Groningen.

The dense fog created hazardous conditions on the roads as well, with visibility dropping below 200 meters in some areas. Several traffic accidents were reported over the past few days as a result of the poor visibility. — NNN-XINHUA
