Indonesia Boosts Methanol Production To Accelerate B50 Mandatory Programme

JAKARTA, Jan 18 (NNN-ANTARA) – The Indonesian government is increasing methanol production, to support the mandatory 50 percent biodiesel programme (B50), which is set to begin next year, Bahlil Lahadalia, energy and mineral resources minister, said yesterday.

According to Bahlil, the national methanol need per year will be at 2.3 million tonnes, while domestic production will be around 500,000 tonnes.

“Indonesia will construct a methanol factory in East Java to address a deficit of 1.8 million tonnes soon,” said Bahlil.

The government aimed to promote national energy independence by maximising the use of crude palm oil in biodiesel production.

Additionally, the government was developing sugarcane-based ethanol plantations in Java and Papua to increase production.– NNN-ANTARA
