Tanzania pledges stronger ties with US
VICE-PRESIDENT DR PHILIP MPANGO BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING US AMBASSADOR TO TANZANIA MICHAEL BATTLE

DODOMA (Tanzania), Jan 12 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA has pledged to continue strengthening cooperation with the US in various areas such as boosting trade volume between the two countries and establishing direct flights from the US to Tanzania in order to attract more tourists.

Vice-President Dr Philip Mpango made the remarks during his talks with the outgoing US Ambassador to Tanzania, Michael Battle at the Chamwino State House in Dodoma.

The VP said that Tanzania expects to continue strengthening cooperation with the incoming US ambassador in various areas, such as boosting trade volume and establishing direct flights from the US to Tanzania to attract more tourists.

Dr Mpango said that further cooperation is needed in the area of technology, recognising the contribution of the US to the growth of the sector globally.

He said that technology will enable the achievement of the government’s goal of clean cooking energy, adding that agricultural technology will help increase production and productivity in the sector.

The VP also added that it is important to continue developing cooperation in the education sector, including providing training for youths and building their capacity to create a skilled workforce that will help accelerate development.

Dr Mpango further said that the existing cooperation between the two countries has contributed to the progress in the health sector, including the fight against HIV/AIDS through the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), maternal and child health services and the M-Mama programme.

He said Tanzania values cooperation with the US which has significantly contributed to the development of various sectors, including health and education.

Commenting on education sector, he said it is crucial to advance cooperation in the sector, including providing training for youths and building capacity to develop a skilled workforce that would accelerate development.

Dr Mpango commended Ambassador Battle for his significant contributions during his tenure, particularly in fostering cooperation during the emergencies, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

The VP also extended condolences following the death of the 39th US President, the late Jimmy Carter,stating that the world has lost a leader of democracy and peace.

Furthermore, he expressed sympathy for the recent fire disaster in Los Angeles, which resulted in loss of life and property.

On his part, the outgoing Ambassador Battle, expressed gratitude to the government of Tanzania for the cooperation he received and assured that the incoming envoy would continue to build on the various achievements made.

He noted that President Samia’s “4Rs” philosophy,not only represents a framework that will leave a mark on the political development reforms in the country but also serves as a testament to the world on how a nation can enact internal reforms and establish good governance aimed at effectively serving its citizens. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
