STUTTGART (Germany), Jan 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Two employees have been killed after shots were fired at a mechanical engineering company in south-western Germany, police said on Tuesday.

One other man was critically injured, police added.

A masked person entered the company’s premises in the town of Bad Friedrichshall, north of Stuttgart, in the early evening and then fired the shots at the men.

The suspected perpetrator, a 52-year-old German man, was arrested in the town of Seckach, police said later.

According to initial investigations, the suspect is an employee of the company where the attack occurred, police said.

Other employees were on site during the crime. They were taken out of the building and questioned by officers, said a police spokeswoman. She did not provide any information on the number of employees present during the shooting.

A homicide squad has taken over the investigation with forensic investigators at the scene.

Around 20,000 people live in Bad Friedrichshall, located in the prosperous state of Baden-Württemberg.

Bad Friedrichshall’s mayor Timo Frey told dpa he was shocked by the news.

He said the family-owned company, which makes gears, is well-known in the area and is a major employer with a staff of around 400.

Shooting incidents are uncommon in the European Union’s most populous nation. — NNN-AGENCIES
