TUNGUU (ZANZIBAR), Jan 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — President Samia Suluhu Hassan has described 2025 as a pivotal year for the political and democratic development of Tanzania.
The country is gearing up for the 2025 elections, during which wananchi will have the important opportunity to elect the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Members of Parliament and councilors on the Mainland, and, in Zanzibar, the President and Chairperson of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, members of the House of Representatives, and councilors.
Delivering her New Year 2025 message, the Head of State urged Tanzanians to uphold the country’s good democratic image, which is built on the foundation of freedom and rights.
She highlighted the early preparations for the general elections have been accomplished. They include amendments to electoral laws.
The laws amended following consultative meetings with democracy stakeholders include the Election of President, MPs, and Councilors Act; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Act; and the Political Parties Act.
“I’m optimistic that the amended laws will effectively guide the management of the forthcoming elections,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Head of State noted Tanzania’s achievements in 2024, including progress in implementing flagship infrastructure projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), improvements in diplomacy, agriculture, social service delivery, economic growth, and revenue collection.
She also highlighted the nation’s celebrations of significant milestones in 2024, including the 60th anniversaries of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the Zanzibar Revolution, the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), and the Tanzania Police Force.
“I conclude by saying that the positive economic trends, our ability to absorb shocks, effective management of our plans, and the wananchi’s spirit of development give us hope as we head into 2025. I thank you, wananchi, for cooperating with the government, a move that has helped us fulfill our responsibilities,” the Head of State concluded. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
