Building Fire In S. Korean City Fully Extinguished

SEOUL, Jan 4 (NNN-YONHAP) – A fire in a commercial and residential building was fully put out, a few hours after it broke out in the South Korean city of Seongnam, yesterday evening, with no serious injuries reported.

The fire started at 4:37 p.m. local time, in the eight-storey building, in Yatap-dong, in Bundang district of Seongnam, prompting over 300 people to evacuate, local authorities, said.

Firefighters, upon receiving multiple fire alarm calls, rushed to the scene and deployed about 80 fire engines and other equipment, trying to put out the fire, which was believed to have started in the kitchen of a restaurant, on the first floor of the building and spread through the exhaust duct.

Fire authorities said, they have rescued over 240 people, while around 70 others have evacuated on their own.

About 130 people reported minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.– NNN-YONHAP
