Indian Gov’t Extends Fertiliser Subsidy To Farmers

NEW DELHI, Jan 2 (NNN-PTI) – The Indian government, yesterday, extended the subsidy on Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertiliser beyond the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS), till further orders, in a bid to ensure sustainable availability of DAP at affordable prices to farmers.

The endeavour would cost the federal government’s exchequer to the tune of 38.5 billion Indian Rupees (around 448.77 million U.S. dollars).

Farmers in the country would continue to purchase a 50-kg bag of DAP at the rate of 1,350 Indian Rupees (around 15.73 dollars), which normally costs around 3,000 Indian Rupees (around 35 dollars).

After the federal cabinet’s decision, the country’s Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, told media persons, “the government has decided to store the DAP in advance.”– NNN-PTI
