Bangladesh Recorded 575 Dengue Deaths In 2024

DHAKA, Jan 1 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh witnessed another deadly year of dengue outbreak, as it recorded more than 100,000 cases and 575 deaths in 2024.

Of the total, 9,745 cases were reported in Dec, after 29,652 in Nov, the official data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) showed here, yesterday.

After reporting an additional 1,185 dengue cases, as of 8:00 a.m. local time yesterday, the dengue tally in Bangladesh has reached 101,214, since Jan, 2024.

Two dengue-related deaths were reported across the country in the past 24 hours, till yesterday morning, raising the death toll to 575, said the DGHS.

Dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. The disease causes an acute illness with symptoms such as headache, high fever, exhaustion, severe muscle and joint pain, swollen glands, vomiting and rash.

In order to fight the rising number of dengue cases, Bangladeshi health authorities strengthened measures to check the breeding of mosquitoes and conduct anti-larval operations.– NNN-BSS
