NYASA (Tanzania), Dec 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Six people died when the vehicle they were traveling in from Lumalu Village in the Upolo Ward to Kilosa, Nyasa District, Ruvuma Region, rolled down a slope in Chunya, Mbinga District.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m on Saturday.

Speaking on behalf of the Nyasa District Commissioner, Nyasa District Administrative Secretary (DAS) Salumu Ismail confirmed that among the deceased were four teachers from Lumaru Primary School, a pharmacist, and the vehicle’s driver.

The group was traveling to Nyasa for a staff evaluation at Limbo Secondary School and to support voter registration efforts.

Ismail thanked citizens for their assistance at the accident scene and urged the public to help during such emergencies.

“Bodies of the victims have been taken to Mbinga Hospital for preservation,” he said.

Furthermore, Ismail said the deceased’s relatives would be required to undergo DNA tests to identify their relatives, saying the cause of the accident remains unclear.

Witnesses, including Logatus Venant, reported seeing the vehicle lose control before it rolled down the slope, causing fatal injuries to the occupants.

Nyasa District Council Director Khalid Khalif, has confirmed the loss of his employees.

He said burial arrangements are being made by the council leadership in collaboration with the families, promising that his office will provide support.

Khalif said Lumulu Primary School, was most affected by the loss, pledging that consultations will be done for teachers to be sent to address an emergency. — NNN-AGENCIES
