Tanzania, Ethiopia extend cooperation in six strategic areas

ADDIS ABABA, Dec 20 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Tanzania and Ethiopia have signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on strategic areas of cooperation, including aviation and tourism.

Other areas of cooperation are trade, industry, livestock, and immigration matters.

The agreements were signed during the First Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting between the two countries, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and witnessed by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, and Ethiopia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gedion Hessebon.

The two sides also signed a joint declaration and agreed that the Second Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting will be held in Tanzania in 2026.

The Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting, which began on Dec 16 concluded on Wednesday. It aimed to discuss and evaluate progress made in implementing various areas of cooperation agreed upon during the establishment of the Commission in 2017, as well as to identify new strategic areas to enhance existing collaborations.

Among other topics, the meeting addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in areas such as politics, diplomacy, defense and security, legal and justice matters, trade, agriculture, livestock, tourism, energy, water, infrastructure development, transportation, information and communication technology, science and technology, health, education, culture, arts, and sports.

Additionally, the parties agreed to enhance collaboration on international platforms and expressed their commitment to supporting the African Union’s (AU) efforts to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.

Furthermore, they pledged to continue working together to strengthen the AU’s peace and security framework. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
