SUVA, Dec 17 (NNN-PINA) – A tsunami warning has been cleared, after a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Vanuatu.
The quake hit 30 km west of Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, at 12:47 pm local time today, with a depth of 43 km, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
Video footage posted to social media shows damage to the building hosting the U.S. and French embassies, and the New Zealand High Commission in Port Vila.
Another video shows a building on the city’s main street had partially collapsed and crushed vehicles underneath.
An image posted to social media appeared to show a landslide had buried part of Port Vila’s wharf.
Many locals cannot be reached immediately, said reports from Vanuatu.– NNN-PINA
